The project was to develop a Master Plan for the 5.4-acre Marsh Park site that borders the LA River in Elysian Valley. The site includes approximately 41,000 square feet of industrial space, an approximately .75-acre natural park, an approximately 2-acre vacant lot and an approximately .25-acre skate park. TAS Architect served as architectural consultant to Melendrez for this project. Three options were developed for the site, including re-use of the largest industrial building as a framework for the proposed park functions. The steel frame would be repurposed as a trellis and support for PV panels, plants, river overlooks, and an outdoor amphitheatre. The project will provide 700’ of river frontage, and is designed as a sustainable eco-system that will serve as a model for the surrounding community.
