Located in the middle of the desert, this house uses a handful of sustainable design ideas to heat and cool the interior spaces depending on the season. To better control the light and heat impact during the different seasons, we’ve created a “Winter” and “Summer” bedroom.

The main living space and summer bedroom face entirely north to eliminate sun blasting into the space while the winter bedroom opens up to the south to encourage sunlight to pour into the space when a little extra warmth is needed. Thick concrete walls help maintain temperatures throughout the house.

Large stacking steel panels slide closed along a track when the owners are away for added security to deter unwanted visitors and/or shield from unwieldly desert winds.
