Double Dog Dare Ya

Project Description

Tucked into an industrial neighborhood along the 5 freeway, the facility seeks to redefine the standard for private boarding kennels. The owners wished to create a sense of mystery and serenity from the street, and a sense of fun and excitement when inside. The building stands between the street and the actual kennels, and serves as the transition between the two moods. The kennels wrap around a central courtyard which is used as a play yard for the dogs during the day. The wall which wraps this courtyard is designed to be alternately closed off as a sound barrier, or opened up by way of "dutch doors" to connect the kennel runs with the play space. The court itself is designed as a rolling “rockscape” complete with swimming pool to provide the maximum exercise for the dogs in an extremely tight space.
