Our clients wanted to add an artist studio space above their garage. Their home is located in the Highland Park-Garvanza Historic Preservation Overlay Zone, which meant this small garage project would go through HPOZ review.
The proposed design was to preserve the character of the garage while using the same design language. Specifically, we focused on keeping the same roof forms to mimic the lower level. A modern interior with natural materials would contrast the rustic exterior.
Unfortunately, the structural upgrades required for the garage were more than expected, so the project was never realized.
