Our clients were a creative young couple with a growing family who approached us with making the best use of a 900 sf home that had been sitting empty. This was your typical 2-story bungalow, with low-ceilings, minimal storage, and multiple layers of peeling paint. If those walls could talk.

The two levels of the house were separate spaces connected via exterior stair (not great when you have a baby on the way). The big move in this project was to build an internal stair and make the interior one functional space.

Upstairs, we partially vaulted the ceiling in the living room to help open up the space. To continue with this theme, a wall was removed to open the kitchen to the living room. The entire kitchen was completely gutted and reworked with more storage and swanky blue cabinets.

Downstairs more magic happened. This is where the entire lower floor was converted into a master suite. Did we mention there was a baby on the way? That wasn’t in the original plan, so the master suite improvised an area for a temporary nursery. The bathroom down here was again gutted and rebuilt with freestanding tub, custom storage, and all new fixtures.

With two houses on their lot, this project was “Phase 1” of their master plan. Parents and the new baby plan to live in the recently renovated home while they begin Phase 2 on the other house.
